Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Motor Vehicle Craft,

My name is MICHAEL STRANO and I am seeking the position of National Business Agent, Motor Vehicle Service Division for the Eastern Region of the American Postal Workers Union.

The National Business Agent is responsible for handling all grievances and problems within this region, which includes your installation.

I have extensive experience as a Union Representative, which includes 12 years as MVS Director and 15 years as Shop Steward for the Trenton Local. I have been to numerous training seminars including the Institute for Labor Studies at West Virginia University, and assisted in MVS training for the NJ State APWU.  I have also been on the local negotiating team and attended many State and National Conventions.

As an employee of the Postal Service for 22 years, I have worked at the Trenton P&DC / VMF for 18 of those 22 years. I have held the position of Automotive Mechanic, Tool & Parts Clerk, Administrative Clerk, Automotive Technician and currently hold the position of Lead Automotive Technician PS-8.

I was one of the first Officer’s within the country to successfully negotiate and have all of our Technicians upgraded to Lead Automotive Technician PS-8.

I was instrumental in helping to communicate with our congressional leaders to stop the closings of the Trenton, NJ P&DC and the Trenton, NJ Vehicle Maintenance. I have filed the appropriate grievances and all of our members that were displaced were made whole for their lost wages in excess of $5,000,000.00 and returned home to Trenton, New Jersey.

I have successfully advocated over 4,500 grievances which secured hundreds of thousands of dollars through pre-arbitration agreements at the local level and plan to continue that once elected as your NBA.

I have worked hand in hand with Motor Vehicle Service Division Director, Robert “Bob” Pritchard at the Local Level and at the National Level to secure our work and educate our Union Representatives.

I will thoroughly prepare in advance for Step 3 meetings, pre-arbitration and arbitration hearings by interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence.

I will keep in regular contact with MVS Directors and with Local Presidents through membership newsletter updates.

I will utilize my Sub-Contracting Tracking template and grievance model within the strategy necessary to protect Motor Vehicle Craft work and secure overtime pay for Motor Vehicle Craft members.

I will provide the MVS Union Representatives of the Eastern Region with the training and templates necessary to perform their duties.

I will process all grievances at all levels in a timely manner.

With my working knowledge, skill, and abilities I am the right person to represent you within the Eastern Region of the Motor Vehicle Service Division of the American Postal Workers Union. I ask you to vote for MICHAEL STRANO on the ballot, which should be mailed to you on or about September 12, 2007.

Should you have any comments, questions or suggestions-or if you need assistance within your area-please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanking you in advance for your kind consideration. I look forward to representing you.
